Diamonds can be found worldwide, whether underground, in the oceans, or high above in the tallest mountains. Every diamond is made in the same way, yet they are found in many different locations and in a vast number of countries and continents. The location of the diamond doesn’t determine its price or importance, but it does give it some character and allows it to be differentiated from the rest.
One of the most highly regarded places for finding diamonds is the coast of Namibia, in the South Atlantic Ocean. The diamonds found underwater are rather easy to spot but rare to find; still, many have been uncovered and sold. The diamonds are found in large pipe-shaped pieces of rock formed from lava and high pressure. As with every diamond, the requirements are still the same to be made. However, you must be extremely careful as the rocks still contain high pressure and hot gas since they are still connected to the earth’s crust. These pipe-shaped rocks are called “kimberlite pipes.” They are deep-rooted into the earth’s crust and are diamondiferous igneous rock formations. Along with the ocean, the Orange River, which cuts through Namibia and South Africa, is both countries’ largest supply source for diamonds. The south contains larger and rarer stones and a few smaller ones, while the north contains a larger quantity of smaller stones and a smaller quantity of larger diamonds.
Diamonds can also be found in the freezing cold tundra, with Canada and Russia being the two coldest places where they can be found. The Ekati Mine, located in the Northwest Territories, is Canada’s largest diamond source, supplying them since the 1990s. Not only is Canada a great diamond source, but it also supplies the world with 15 percent of its diamonds, making it the third-largest producer in the world. This has only been the case recently because, soon after they opened their mining company in 1989, the Ekati mine was found and dubbed a diamond haven.
Finally, India is the first place to ever start mining and finding diamonds, from 1730 onwards to the current day. The diamonds in India are found deep within their mines and rivers in the Godavari region, and nowadays many are found in the Panna region. India is still the leading country in the world for most diamonds found and the largest and most expensive. They also have a tremendous amount of history and development within their country and the mining world.
