How to care for your jewellery
Jewellery is one of our most cherished objects. Whether it was given to you by a loved one or for a special occasion, you will always remember this moment when you wear it. At Tim & Co. we are committed to giving you all the keys to make your jewellery last forever and pass it on from generation to generation while keeping its beauty.
At Tim & Co., we take great care in selecting the highest quality materials for each of our creations. However, a slight wear is normal with time and daily pollution. To preserve the brightness of your jewellery we will provide you with some tips.
Store your jewellery
The storage of jewellery is essential to preserve its youthful beauty. Always store them in your jewellery box or in the protective packaging in which you received them. This will protect your jewelry from scratches, light and moisture. At the same time, it will protect them from being dropped and damaged.
Did you know that when you order your piece of jewellery at Tim & Co. it comes beautifully wrapped to you? Our protective box has been thought to protect your jewellery, so you can be confident when you store your creation in it!
General Care
Here are a few tips if you want to be sure to preserve your jewelry in perfect condition:
- Take off your jewellery when you do sports, this will avoid breaking or damaging it. Jewellery is also sensitive to the acidity of sweat (especially pearls and opals)
- Take it off when you go to sleep
- Remove your jewellery when cooking or cleaning
- Always keep them away from chemicals, especially anything that contains chlorine (so take them off before going to the pool). If your jewellery accidentally comes in contact with chemicals or household products, rinse it off with water right away.
- Try to store your jewellery separately. For example, store each piece in its original box or pouch to prevent tangling or scratching.
- When storing your jewelry, make sure it is not exposed to direct sunlight, excessive heat or moisture.
Silver Jewellery
Silver can tarnish when exposed to salt air or products containing sulfur, such as rubber bands and some papers. You don’t want your preferred silver jewellery to get darker right? To revive the beauty of silver, you can use any silver jewellery cleaner or warm water combined with washing-up liquid on a cloth to gently clean your jewellery which will immediately regain its glow.
Gold Jewellery
Gold jewellery can slightly lose its color when exposed to household bleach. Also, pollution and contact with the skin can harm its brilliance over time. To preserve its shine, you can use a soft-bristled toothbrush or a piece of cloth with dishwashing liquid to gently clean your jewellery.
Gemstone and diamonds Jewellery
Extreme temperatures, perfumes, cosmetics and household chemicals are the enemies of your gemstones. Avoid violent impact (especially when doing sports) because gemstones and diamonds are delicate (as us) and can get out of your jewellery in case of choc. To clean your diamonds, nothing is more simple! You can simply use a non-abrasive cleanser or warm water combined with washing-up liquid to degrease them and revive their brilliance.
